The Karuk Tribe seeks qualified individuals to provide tutoring services to school-age youth at designated locations, emphasizing cultural sensitivity, learning style awareness, and academic support. Applicants must meet academic or proficiency standards, pass a background check, and submit qualifications, an approach to the work, and references.
Overview
The Karuk Tribe is seeking qualified individuals to provide tutoring services to school-age youth. Tutoring will take place at the Tribe’s computer centers, schools, or other designated meeting sites. Tutors are responsible for transportation to and from the meeting location and must work collaboratively with school staff, parents, other tutors, and the Karuk Tribe to serve the best interests of each student.
Tutor Responsibilities
- Welcome students in a friendly manner, prepare for sessions in advance, and be punctual.
- Exhibit patience, provide appropriate “thinking” time, and be sensitive to cultural differences and unique learning styles.
- Report on progress and routinely check student understanding by having them summarize lessons.
- Attend mandatory pre-service and semester tutor meetings scheduled by the Education Department.
Requirements
- Must pass an FBI criminal background check.
- Must be a 9th–12th grade student or older with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or demonstrate proficiency in subject matter and ability to tutor the preferred age group(s).
Proposal Submission Requirements
Required Items
- Statement of qualifications, including relevant tutoring experience, knowledge of learning styles, and tutoring techniques (include documentation such as report cards, diplomas, resumes, or letters of recommendation).
- Proposed approach and rationale for the scope of work, with examples of similar work and achieved results.
- Names and telephone numbers of three references.

- Indian Preference applies in accordance with TERO and the Indian Preference Act.
- Contracts over $2,500 are subject to a 2% TERO fee.
