The Karuk Tribal Education Department is dedicated to providing comprehensive educational support services that empower students to achieve self-sufficiency. By integrating traditional knowledge and cultural practices into the curriculum, the department ensures that students not only excel academically but also maintain a strong connection to their heritage. Services Provided

Financial Aid

The Karuk Tribe offers financial aid opportunities to support students in achieving their educational goals. Assistance may include scholarships, grants, or other resources to help cover the costs of tuition, books, and school-related expenses.

Youth Leadership

Youth Leadership programs empower Karuk youth to build skills, strengthen cultural identity, and become active voices in the community. Through mentorship, events, and training, young leaders gain experience that supports their future educational and career pathways.

Bookmobile

The Karuk Tribal Bookmobile brings library services directly to the community, providing access to books, educational resources, and literacy activities. By traveling to rural areas, it ensures that families and students have convenient access to reading materials.

Cultural Services

Cultural Services promote the preservation and sharing of Karuk traditions, language, and heritage. Programs may include workshops, community events, and cultural education activities that strengthen identity and ensure knowledge is passed on to future generations.

Karuk Higher Education Grant

The Karuk Tribe supports students in pursuing their educational goals through a Higher Education Grant. This funding opportunity is designed to help offset the costs of tuition, books, and other school-related expenses for eligible Tribal members. Awards are determined by the Education Committee and may vary each year depending on available resources and the number of applicants.Students are encouraged to apply early and submit all required materials by the deadline to ensure consideration. This grant is one way the Tribe invests in building brighter futures and supporting the success of Karuk college students.

The Northern California Indian Development Council, Inc. (NCIDC) is a nonprofit serving 14,000–15,000 clients annually across California. Established in 1976, it develops and administers programs that support Native communities through social and economic services, technical assistance, and the preservation of historic and cultural resources.

Online Karuk Dictionary

Ararahih’urípih (meaning "Karuk language net") is an interactive online toolkit for studying the Karuk language, hosted by UC Berkeley. It offers a robust searchable dictionary and text corpus, complete with audio and grammatical filters, enabling users to explore vocabulary, example sentences, and master speaker recordings across semantic fields and parts of speech.

Does the Karuk Education Department provide food, clothing, or other pantry items?

At this time, we do not have funding available to provide pantry items such as food, clothing, or hygiene supplies however, we can get you connected with programs who are able to provide these resources.

Are Higher Education Grants available to Karuk Descendants or Graduate Students?

Currently, Karuk Higher Education Grants are only availableto enrolled Karuk Tribal Members who are pursuing an undergraduate degree.Unfortunately, descendants and graduate-level students arenot eligible for this funding.

Can I borrow a laptop from the Education Department?

The Karuk Education Department has a very limited supply of loaner laptops available for students actively enrolled in school. Laptops are distributed on a case-by-case basis, and availability is not guaranteed. Please contact us directly to check current availability.
