Language Program

The Karuk Language Program is committed to revitalizing and preserving the first language of this region—the language of the Karuk People. With fewer than a dozen fluent speakers remaining, we carry forward the sacred responsibility of ensuring that our words, knowledge, and identity are passed on to future generations.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to preserve, revitalize, and promote the Karuk language as a living expression of our identity, sovereignty, and unbroken connection to our homelands. By integrating traditional teaching methods with modern tools, we empower our community to reclaim our language, strengthen cultural knowledge, and ensure the voices of our ancestors continue to guide generations to come.
