Cultural Practitioners
The Karuk Tribe is seeking Cultural Practitioners to contribute skills and knowledge for cultural events, offering stipends based on participation time. Practitioners should provide background information, relevant experience, and references for inclusion in the Tribe’s rolling qualifications list.
Overview
The Karuk Tribe requests Statements of Qualifications from Cultural Practitioners to share knowledge and/or coordinate activities at Cultural Events (excluding ceremonies). A rolling list of qualified practitioners will be maintained for future events, and compensation is provided based on participation time.
Compensation
- 1–3 hours: $100 stipend
- 4–6 hours: $200 stipend
- Over 6 hours (full day): $400 stipend
Areas of Interest
- Regalia making
- Preserving and processing Native foods
- Basket weaving and gathering
- Traditional knowledge of plants, animals, and aquatic species
- Storytelling
- Karuk language speaking
- Other cultural/historical knowledge, including traditional land management practices

- Background information on the details and origin of knowledge.
- Names and telephone numbers of three client references.

Additional Information
- Indian Preference applies in accordance with the Indian Preference Act and/or TERO.
- Contracts over $2,500 are subject to a 2% TERO fee.
- A background check, including employment history, professional references, and criminal record, will be required in compliance with Tribal, Federal, and State requirements.
