Position Overview

The Karuk Tribe seeks a qualified CULTURAL PRACTITIONER for the Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers program, serving Native youth in grades 4–8. This position supports the sharing and preservation of Karuk cultural knowledge while promoting hope, connection, and positive life skills. The program includes 14 sessions, scheduled in collaboration with the selected individual to best support school and participant availability. The Cultural Practitioner will lead cultural teachings and activities, guide youth in creating 15-strand necklaces, and incorporate traditional Karuk dances. Applicants must demonstrate strong cultural understanding and a commitment to youth development.

Program Description Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers is a culturally grounded program focused on preventing suicide and substance abuse. Using the Pacific Northwest Canoe Journey as a teaching model, it helps youth navigate life’s challenges without alcohol or drugs. The program strengthens cultural identity through Karuk values, dance, and traditional teachings. All supplies are provided through grant funding. The flat rate for the project is $2,500, payable in one lump sum at the end or in two installments upon submission of required paperwork.
