Karuk Resources Advisory Board (KRAB) Members Needed

The Karuk Tribe is currently accepting Applications for Consideration from Tribal Members to serve on the Karuk Resources Advisory Board (KRAB).Please complete a letter of intent and the attached application for consideration detailing your experience and expertise, and a letter(s) of recommendation, and submit it to the Karuk Human Resources Department for consideration.

The KRAB Committee was created for the following purposes: to serve as an advisory body to the Tribal Council and the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO);and is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and providing consensus-based recommendations on matters affecting cultural resources, consultation, land management, and ground-disturbing activities within Karuk Aboriginal Territory, and ensures that Tribal actions align with Karuk cultural values and stewardship practices.

The Karuk Resources Advisory Board (KRAB) meets monthly, typically scheduled within fourteen (14) days prior to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Council meeting, to ensure timely review and recommendations on cultural resource matters. Special meetings may also be held. The meeting will be held virtually and in person. Members are expected to travel as necessary to attend meetings, training courses, and conferences. Members are compensated with $200.00stipends for their time at meetings. Mileage is paid if the meeting location requires travel.

Eligibility:

In order to qualify for appointment to the Committee, a person must submit:

1. A statement of intent describing the applicant’s reasons for wanting to serve on the Karuk Resources Advisory Board(KRAB), their perspective on cultural resource protection and stewardship, and any relevant background, experience, or knowledge applicable to the position.

2. At least one (1) letter of recommendation stating that, because of the esteem in which the applicant is held, the applicant should be appointed to serve on the Karuk Resources Advisory Board (KRAB).

Requirements:

1.Candidate must be a Karuk Tribal Member.

2.Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of appointment.

3.Must adhere to strict confidentiality requirements and sign a mandatory confidentiality agreement. KRAB members are subject to the same standards ofconfidentiality as professionals working with sensitive cultural resourceinformation, including Tribal staff and cultural resource specialists.

4.Must adhere to the conflict of interest policy of the Karuk Tribe.

5.Must be able to regularly attend and participate in both in-person and virtual meetings.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Attend regular KRAB meetings and participate in occasional phone or virtual votes, as needed.

· Review and provide recommendations to the Tribal Council and the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) on matters related to: Cultural resource protection, ground-disturbing activities, land and landscape management, and Tribal consultation processes (Section 106,AB-52, SB-18)

· Support strategic planning, outreach, and education efforts that promote the protection and stewardship of Karuk cultural resources and traditional practices.

· Provide guidance on monitoring procedures, cultural protocols, and measures necessary to avoid, minimize, or mitigate impacts to cultural resources.

· Engage in additional activities, trainings, or meetings as determined by the Tribal Council, KRAB, or the THPO.

The Karuk Tribe’s Drug & Alcohol Policy applies. If selected, applicants must successfully pass a drug screening test and bewilling to submit to a criminal background check.
