Guest Speakers - Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers program - Happy Camp

The Karuk Tribe, through the Karuk Tribe Housing Authority (KTHA), invites applications for a CURRICULUM FACILITATOR for the Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers Program serving Native youth in grades 4 to 8. The facilitator will lead curriculum delivery in Happy Camp and coordinate with the Cultural Practitioner to complete all sessions. The Kahtíshraam Wellness Center team will provide guidance, materials, and support.

Position Overview

The Karuk Tribe is seeking two (2) qualified GUEST SPEAKERS for the Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers program, serving Native youth in grades 4–8. Presentations will focus on prevention, wellness, dance protocol, or other cultural topics that build strength, pride, and resilience. This program helps youth face life’s challenges without alcohol or drugs, guided by Karuk values and traditions.

Each session is one hour, with compensation of $75 per presentation. Local speakers are preferred to limit travel costs, though limited out-of-area participation may be considered. Two positions are available per site (Yreka and Happy Camp), individuals may apply for more than one site. Payment will be issued after all final paperwork is submitted.

Program Description

Healing of the Canoe – Wisdom Keepers is a culturally grounded program that helps Native youth build life skills, resilience, and healthy decision-making. Using the Pacific Northwest Canoe Journey as a teaching model, it provides lessons to face life’s challenges without alcohol or drugs, strengthened by Karuk values, dances, and traditions.

Guest Speakers may present on topics including but not limited to: Cultural Strength and Identity, Wellness and Balance, Education and Future Pathways, Leadership and Personal Growth, Connection to the Land and Environment, Life Skills and Empowerment
