Notes From the Chairman

Ayukîi koovuda Tribal Members and Descendants,

Council has been working hard on many projects that will benefit our people. These include:

Land to Trust / Land Back

Over 1,000 acres of land in the Somes Bar–Orleans area are being returned. Congressman Jared Huffman is introducing legislation for this effort. This opens doors for hunting, gathering, water, and fishing rights.

Self-Governance Progress

I was appointed by Secretary Deb Haaland to the Self-Governance PROGRESS Act Negotiated Rulemaking Committee — giving us a voice in shaping how tribes manage lands.

Housing

We have nearly 400 homes and are advocating for more. Putting land into trust is essential before building HUD housing. We continue working with the Department of Interior to push this forward.

Education & Training

We are planning to expand access to vocational and college education — to train forestry experts, fisheries managers, equipment operators, and others. A sustainable economy in our forests is achievable.

Casino Expansion

Rain Rock Casino is adding a convention center, hotel, and 12 cottages. Discussions around per-capita payments are underway. We are committed to paying off our loan first — “Coming Soon.”

As always, my door is open. Feel free to call or email with thoughts and suggestions to help our people.

Yootva kura suva nik (thank you and see you later),

Chairman Buster Attebery
