The Karuk Tribe is encouraging youth participation in a contest to create a “Drug-Free Zone” sign, aimed at clearly signaling that drug use and sales are not permitted, thereby contributing to a safe environment for all individuals.

Karuk Drug-free zone signs play a crucial role in enhancing safety and deterring drug-related activities in designated areas like schools, buildings, land, and parks. The Karuk Tribe is encouraging youth participation in a contest to create a “Drug-Free Zone” sign, aimed at clearly signaling that drug use and sales are not permitted, thereby contributing to a safe environment for all individuals.
Instructions: Open to Tribal youth who live in Yreka, Happy Camp, and Orleans. Design/draw a “Drug-Free Zone” sign on any format (Paper, Word, Publisher, or Canvas). The winner will be chosen in mid-January of 2026. You could be the lucky artist to have your “Drug-Free Zone” signs posted at many Tribal locations. Native language, designs, and culturally driven art encouraged!

PRIZE: Karuk Canvas Painting (valued up to $400), Karuk swag box of goodies, a handmade native necklace, and a $50 gift card to Black Bear Diner.
