Works under a Deputy Director, Program Manager, or designee, to support the operations of the Karuk Department of Natural Resources (KDNR) programs as assigned. Summary

Works under a Deputy Director, Program Manager, or designee, to support the operations of the Karuk Department of Natural Resources (KDNR) programs as assigned. This includes supporting data entry and tracking for grants and contracts; meeting scheduling; note-taking; inventory management; creating, organizing, and managing files; grant writing and deliverable tracking; supporting the development and review of action items for Tribal Council; and other core functions to ensure that the KDNR Program(s) assigned operate as smoothly as possible.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the development, coordination, and implementation of KDNR grants, agreements, contracts, and compacts as assigned, including the establishment and maintenance of deliverable tracking systems.
  2. Schedule, organize, and facilitate meetings and events.
  3. Take and distribute notes and action items from meetings and workshops; ensure follow-through on the part of participants.
  4. Establish and update filing systems (digital and hardcopy) and file meeting notes, sign-in sheets, documents, and other materials.
  5. Prepare, review, edit, and revise KDNR program action item submissions for administrative processing; serve as liaison with KDNR administrative operations staff.
  6. Draft and update budgets and tracking systems.
  7. Support grant writing, contracting, agreements, workshops, trainings, and outreach activities.
  8. Assist in carrying out grant deliverables funding the position as directed.
  9. Be polite and maintain a priority system in accepting other position-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Ability to work effectively with Native American people, researchers, educators, agency personnel, and the greater community in culturally diverse environments.
  2. Ability to manage time well and work under stressful conditions with composure.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees, stakeholders, and the public.
  4. Baseline knowledge of Karuk culture and traditions.
  5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  6. Ability to operate effectively in remote work assignments.
  7. Baseline knowledge of safe work practices and maintaining a secure work environment.
  8. Experience managing grant awards and/or tracking deliverables preferred but not required.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Native American Studies, English, Business Administration, Education, Nutritional Health, or related field and one (1) year related work experience; or equivalent education/experience (2 years experience = 1 year education).
  2. At least six (6) months supervisory experience.
  3. Ability to work within Native American communities and maintain harmonious relationships with employees, collaborators, and the public.
  4. High respect for and understanding of Indigenous cultures, preferably Karuk.
  5. Skills in professional writing and mathematics.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word, with ability to develop complex spreadsheets.
  7. Proficiency in shared filing and organization systems (e.g., Box), or willingness to learn.
  8. Ability to work effectively in remote environments while maintaining data security.
  9. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and insurability by the Tribe’s insurance carrier.
  10. Adherence to Karuk Tribe policies and procedures.
  11. Must pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
