Dental Broken Appointment Policy

The Dental Broken Appointment Policy helps ensure dental appointments are available for everyone. Because appointments are often scheduled well in advance, missed appointments prevent other patients from receiving needed care. Please review carefully.

Helping You Maintain Your Dental Care.

Before Your Appointment

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify the dental clinic at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.

Providing advance notice allows us to offer your appointment time to another patient.

Need to cancel?

Please contact the Dental Clinic at least 24 hours before your appointment whenever possible.

What Counts as a Broken Appointment?

A broken appointment occurs when you:

  • Do not attend your scheduled appointment.
  • Arrive more than 10 minutes late and there is not enough time to complete your treatment.
  • Cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours' notice.

Broken appointments are tracked over a 6-month period.

If You Miss Appointments

If you have two broken appointments within six months, you will be placed on emergency dental care only for the next six months.

After that six-month period, you may contact the Dental Clinic to schedule routine dental care again.

Important: Emergency dental services will remain available during this period.

Keeping Your Records Up to Date

Each time a broken appointment occurs:

  • Clinic staff will notify you.
  • A copy of the Broken Appointment Notice will be mailed to you.
  • The appointment will be documented in your dental record.

Patients are also asked to review and sign the Dental Broken Appointment and Confirmation Consent Form acknowledging they have read and understand the policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Dental Clinic have a Broken Appointment Policy?

Dental appointments are often booked weeks or months in advance. Missed appointments prevent other patients from receiving care and reduce the number of appointments available.

What if I'm running late?

If you expect to be late, please call the Dental Clinic as soon as possible. Patients arriving more than 10 minutes late may need to be rescheduled if there is not enough time to complete treatment.

How much notice do I need to cancel?

Please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

What happens after two broken appointments?

If you have two broken appointments within a six-month period, you will be scheduled for emergency dental care only for six months. After that period, you may return to routine scheduling.

Will I still receive emergency dental care?

Yes. Patients placed on emergency-only status may still receive emergency dental treatment.
