2025 Karuk Tribe Reunion - Acorn Cook
The Karuk Tribe is seeking a cook to demonstrate the traditional acorn soup preparation at the Annual Tribal Reunion on September 13, 2025, in Happy Camp, CA. The role includes cooking for about 300 people, supplying materials, and engaging attendees, with proposals due August 29, 2025.
The Karuk Tribe seeks food service proposals for the Reunion Acorn Soup Demonstration Cook at the Annual Karuk Tribal Reunion, to be held Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at the Karuk Tribe Administration Complex, 64236 Second Avenue, Happy Camp, CA.
The selected contractor will demonstrate the traditional process of cooking acorn soup, including preparing the fire, using cooking rocks, and cooking in a traditional acorn soup basket. Demonstrators should be prepared to answer audience questions.
Contractors must bring their own supplies, including firewood for the cooking pit and small serving cups (e.g., Dixie cups). Samples must be ready by 3:30 p.m. on the day of the event, with service planned for approximately 300 people.
Proposal Requirements
- Statement of qualifications, including relevant food service history and Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Proposed approach for completing the tasks described, including examples of similar work and outcomes.
- Lump sum price with attached price page.
- Names and telephone numbers of three client references.

Additional Notes
Indian Preference applies per the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 47) and/or the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). Contracts over $2,500.00 are subject to a 2% TERO fee. Applicable construction contracts over $2,000 must comply with the Davis-Bacon Act.
A background check covering employment history, references, and criminal record will be required per Tribal, State, and Federal requirements.
