The Karuk Department of Natural Resources and Department of Transportation are conducting a Climate Transportation Vulnerability Assessment. People have long needed to move throughout Karuk Territory for social, livelihood, cultural, spiritual and recreational purposes. Travel challenges and disruptions have also long been a part of living in this place! As the climate changes, increases in existing disruptions from landslides, flooding, and wildfire are forecasted to increase. Even disruptions from snow and ice may persist as weather patterns become more variable and extreme. We acknowledge that each of these challenges occur in a larger context of non-Tribal management (e.g. fire suppression, roads maintenance by other entities, etc.).
We seek community input on transportation challenges (and possible solutions) that will be incorporated into long term planning and climate adaptation efforts. Please take a few minutes to share your experiences, needs and ideas in this survey: https://forms.gle/m2n7W3wEd3zodtAYA
Please also help share this survey around to our community! You are also welcome to attend a virtual community forum to be held October 20, 6-7:30. The virtual community forum will be held over Webex. To join the meeting, click this link after the meeting has started:
