Karuk Tribe and Siskiyou County STAGE Partner to Expand Transit Services

 

The Karuk Tribe Department of Transportation is pleased to announce that starting February 27, 2012, the Siskiyou Transit and General Express (STAGE) will begin to offer expanded transit service to the communities of Somes Bar and Orleans, California.

 

Until now, STAGE was only able to provided bus service two days per week along State Route 96 from Happy Camp to Yreka, California. According to Sandi Tripp, Director of Transportation for the Karuk Tribe, “ We have worked diligently for over four years with Siskiyou County STAGE staff and the Siskiyou County Local Transportation Commission to coordinate an agreement to expand transit services for residents of Happy Camp and provide long awaited new services to our down river communities of Somes Bar and Orleans.”

 

STAGE will provide new transit services to Yreka, California, Monday and Wednesday for residents of Orleans, Somes Bar and Happy Camp.  As well as continued transit services every Friday for residents of Happy Camp.  Additionally, transit services will be provided to allow for multiple daily routes within for the same noted communities every Tuesday and Thursday.

As of March 1, 2012 to use voucher passes you must have a Happy Camp voucher or you will need to use two regular vouchers to ride.  From Orleans / Somes Bar to Yreka you will need to have a regular voucher and a Happy Camp voucher to ride the bus.

STAGE Conduct Rules

  1. No eating, smoking, littering or possession and/or consumption of illegal drugs or alcohol.
  2. Inappropriate touching or inappropriate comment(s) will not be tolerated.
  3. No spitting, urinating, defecating or exposing oneself.
  4. Earphones or headphones must be used with all personal audio or media equipment must be kept low so other passengers are not disturbed.
  5. Do not act or make comments that could be perceived as threatening to other passengers or your driver.  Under the Patriot Act of 2001, violent acts against mass transportation workers, vehicles and facilities are federal crimes.
  6. Shoes, shirts and appropriate clothing are required.
  7. Hazardous materials or weapons are prohibited.
  8. No illegal activities permitted on the bus.
